Law in ohio for going into the woods just to shoot a rifle?

So i just bought a marlin 336, the first gun ive ever bought in Ohio. im pretty excited to try it out but i dont want to pay $10 to go to the range. Back when i lived in NC wed just go into the woods and shoot at cans and junk with 30-06, 30-30, .22 and nobody really cared. Is it illegal to do that in Ohio?
