Does anybody know whether or not it is a good idea to use a .444 marlin to deer hunt?

thinking about purchasing a .444 marlin for deer hunting mainly white tail. Dont what to turn the deer into hamburger meat but want a rifle with good knockdown power and one that leaves a good blood trail if needed
