Even if one claims to love God if we try to change Him to suite and sooth our desires isn't that idolatry?

Man cannot change God. God created man and supplied each person with a brain and the resources to educate oneself. If man wants change for himself for whatever reason, it is up to oneself to pray to our creator for that. Only Jesus and His Father can do this.
