Wooden forend on Marlin 1894 has swollen after I've taken it off. Cannot get end piece on so the screw holes?

line up. I live in Connecticut so it is pretty humid. How do I get the wood to go back to normal? Jesus this just isn't my day for guns. I buy a new mini 14 and can't even clean the ******* thing because the damn cloths won't fit. I took the trigger assembly of the 14 apart to give it a good cleaning and now I cannot get it back together, and have to bring it to the gun store tomorrow to see if they can do it. Now this. Fml.
