Catholic religion a parallel to the Pharisees?

More and more as I study the bible I see a connection between the Catholic church to the Pharisees of Jesus' time. Does anyone else see this? The Pharisees were much like the mob, a controlling religious sect who basically made the Jews jump through hoops for their salvation and devised rituals and traditions and made themselves more righteous than God, basically telling the massive salvation comes through the temple and their rules and not through God. Well we know how Jesus felt about the Pharisees. Similarly the Catholic church breaks away from the Bible and devises their own rituals and traditions telling the congregation that salvation comes only through the church, not through Jesus. Thus why they ignore the command against idolatry, the praying to others and worshiping other of idols other than God, etc. Accepting Jesus that He died for our sins, but He really is just another person in Heaven in status with Mary, the saints, etc., ignoring His command that no-one goes to the Father but the Son and inventing their own rules to control their masses. Anyone agree?
